New Skoda Roomster 2015 prototype spied

Test mule for the long-awaited second-generation Skoda Roomster has been spied testing in Switzerland disguised as a VW Touran

The first Skoda Roomster launched way back in 2006, so it’s no surprise our spies appear to have caught the Czech manufacturer working on a replacement for the MPV in the Swiss Alps.

As you can see, this prototype is concealed beneath a stretched version of the current Volkswagen Touran’s bodywork, offering few clues as to how the second-generation Roomster will look.

What we do know is the new model will be based on the next Touran, with rumours suggesting it’ll share similar design features on top of the shared platform, although cheaper materials and reduced technology will help distinguish the two brands.

As part of the changes, it’s possible some of the original Roomster’s unique features will make way, including the distinctive rear side window layout.

We’ll have to wait for the new Skoda’s official debut to know for certain though, which could be scheduled for the Paris Motor Show in October, ahead of an early 2015 launch.

While full prices and specifications won’t be announced until nearer the time, expect only a small price increase over the current Roomster’s £12,105 starting price.
