SEAT Mii X-Perience scooped at MWC 2016

Rougher, tougher SEAT Mii city car has been snapped at the Mobile World Congress – could hint at future model

SEAT Mii X-Perience spy shot

SEAT is considering a tough Mii X-Perience model to further differentiate the style-led city car from its VW and Skoda stablemates.

Snapped at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, this grainy image is our first look at SEAT’s crossover-style small car. The new car was briefly flashed on screen during a presentation on SEAT’s connectivity plans, to the surprise of some SEAT staff at the show.

The car seen here gets a raised ride height, protective body cladding and even a set of roof rails. It looks like the new car will utilise an aluminium scuff plate under the front bumper, too, though despite it’s off-road appearance four-wheel drive is unlikely to feature.

With sister-brand Volkswagen having already announced a facelifted version of the up!, it’s only a matter of time before similar changes are realised in the Mii. However, a more rugged version – dubbed X-Perience – would give the funky SEAT a unique selling point in this class. It'd join the Leon X-Perience and sit below the upcoming Ateca SUV in the brand's growing crossover range. A Nissan Juke-rivalling B-segment SUV based on the Ibiza supermini is also expected in the next 18 months.

Unfortunately, the low-resolution image of the Mii X-Perience doesn’t give much away with regard to the imminent nips and tucks the rest of the Mii range is expected to receive, but we can expect revised lights front and rear, as well as tweaked bumpers and a fresh interior to feature when the standard car goes on sale later this year.

Under the bonnet, the Mii is likely to get VW’s new three-cylinder turbo for improved performance, as well as the existing range of 1.0-litre petrol engines. There’s no word on an all-electric rival to the VW e-up!.
